When I started
Carriage Parts Ltd in 2006 I wanted to focus on quality
cannon irons that would have a smooth surface and not
have to be ground on to have clean castings. My first
thought was to use the sand cast method of tooling. I
tooled the No 1 Trunnion Plate in sand cast. The quality
was unacceptable, and something I would not buy myself.
I was familiar with the Investment Casting Process and
decided to try this to get smooth castings. The main drawback
was the tooling cost was much more expensive than sand
cast method. I was determined to try it and decided
to focus on the No 1 Carriage. My first part was the No
1 Cap Square, and when I got the smooth samples I knew
this was the way to produce smooth, quality cannon irons
that I had been looking for.
The majority of my irons are 1030 medium carbon steel
Investment Cast.
In 2012 I decided to rename the business Cannon Parts
Ltd. Please look over my irons, and call or email
with questions.
